BRIEF: Johnny Manziel reportedly hospitalized for prescription drug complication

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - 5/8/2018

May 08--Johnny Manziel, who made his battle with mental illness public earlier this year, was hospitalized Monday night, according to TMZ.

Manziel had been attending a concert with friends after playing in a golf tournament, TMZ said, when he "had a reaction to an adjustment in his prescription," according to his rep, Denise Michaels, who said Manziel was headed home after being admitted to the hospital.

In February, Manziel appeared on "Good Morning America" to talk about being diagnosed as bipolar, taking medication for it and working on a comeback.

"I am taking medication for bipolar, and I am working to try to make sure I don't fall back into any type of depression, because I know where that leads me and I know how slippery a slope that is for me," Manziel said in the interview.

Manziel hasn't played professional football since 2015, when his stint as the Browns' quarterback crashed to an end. He also has a history of domestic violence allegations against him.

The Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats hold the rights to negotiate with the Heisman Trophy winner as he continues to work his way back into pro football.
