Coming up in Cowichan: Meet the Wounded Warriors

Cowichan Valley Citizen - 2/24/2020

Wounded Warrior Run stops at Legion

The Royal Canadian Legion Malahat District Branch 134 has had the honour of supporting the Wounded Warriors Run since the run's inception in 2013.

The Legion has held fundraisers and hosted one of their last scheduled stops on their 600 kilometre run from Port Hardy to Victoria. One hundred per cent of the funds donated for the run stays on Vancouver Island. The 2020 run starts on Feb. 23rd, and ends on March 1 in Victoria.

This year the Legion is inviting members of the community to come out to welcome the runners and Sarge, (a service dog). They are scheduled to be at the Legion on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m.

Donations will be accepted and T-shirts will be on sale during the Double Meat Draw (3–5 p.m.). Legion members and members of the community will be on hand to greet the runners. Homemade chili will be waiting for them and will be available to attendees by donation. Cash donations will be accepted until the cheque presentation by Cdn Paul Richard and his service dog Canuck.

"We hope to raise over $5,000 this year for this very worthwhile cause," say organizers.

Be sure to check the Facebook page (Royal Canadian Legion Br 134) for photos and videos as the runners approached the Legion.
